Macaroni

Yankee Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his cap
And called it macaroni.
Yankee Doodle, keep it up
Yankee Doodle dandy
Mind the music and the step
And with the girls be handy.

Well I do not know about most but I have always wondered what the heck macaroni means in the yankee doodle song. Well today I have the answer! Macaroni was a slang term in the 18th Century (Rococo). Young men in France had went to Italy and were very amused by the dish macaroni and thought it was very delightful. Well these young men were the "hipsters" of today (sad that is what I have to compare it to)  and came back started using macaroni as cool. They were ones who started all the fashion trends and new slang in France. So anytime something was badass or you were stoked on anything they woud say " Thats macaroni" So as with anything slang travels. When Yankee Doodle put that feather in his hat he made it macaroni.
