A Surprise Everytime

I guess it is time to admit that I am fully in LOVE with kidrobot Dunnys and Munnys. My obsession grows with each new series they come out with. My collection is small but it is growing with love.

Dunnys and Munnys are produced by Kidrobot. Kidrobot was founded in 2002 by Paul Budnitz. Most of what kidrobot produces are vinyl toys which are limited and later become collectors items. Kidrobot is known more for their Dunnys and Munnys however they produce many other toys and apparel and sneakers.

Now Dunnys are a vinyl designer toy that was created by Paul Budnitz and Tristan Eaton in 2004 and is produced by Kidrobot. They are a blind assortment meaning you never know which one you are going to get. This at times can get annoying as they are not all the same ratio and some are hard to find. So when you need just one more ( which is usually the case for me) I end up getting 4 of the same kind that I already have. On the other hand I get so excited when i find a 1/75 and it is a rare or hard one to find. I feel as tho I am 7 years old again opening my birthday presents in hopes it is what I have been asking for. As most Dunnys are artist collaborated they come with a artist card as to inform you on which artist created it. Some artists are commissioned specifically to create a Dunny making such as Obeys's Shepard Fairey.

Furthermore the LA series has a rare golden ticket in one of the boxes in which you can exchange it for a limited edition Dunny in store. Dunnys will always be a guilty pleasure for me to collect that is far too expensive. Also they have led the way for other vinyl toys such as the collectors edition of Vinylmation which is Disney's take on the Kidrobot Dunny.

The Munnys are a do it yourself vinyl toy. The originals came out in white and were 7inches but now there are many variations, the 4 inch Mini Munny, the Mega Munny which is 18 inches the Munny zipper pulls and the Mini Munny mobile ( pictured below) Munnys are a bit more fun to me. I have made three one that is pictured above and two others for Christopher whose names are Charlie and Isabel. Munnys are a great way to draw on a pre-made figure and a great way to express your artistic ability whether you believe you have any or not.

Now many claim that our cultures obsession with Kidrobot is due to the Pop Art movement in the 1950's / 1960's and I would say they are correct. Pop Art was a rebellion against what was excepted at the time. It started in the United States around the mid 1950's but really took off during the 1960's. The art was about the attitudes and sass that led to it but not really about the art itself. Now of our generation it is mostly about mass culture hence the love of things such as kidrobot, obey, the hundreds... the list goes on an on.

My Current Favorites

Well here is a little blurb about all of my current favorites and items on my Christmas list (a girl can dream). Here it goes....

A leather jacket but not just any leather jacket. The Veda Viper double zip jacket (the panel in the middle zips out). Veda Clothing is a new line of leather jackets launched in Spring of 2008 by Lyndsey D. Butler. She specializes in only leathers from classic to innovative distressed leathers. She aims to create the perfect leather for everyone.

Another item of interest is Valerie Dumaine's "Tess" Dress. Dumaine graduated from LaSalle college in Canada. Once she graduated in 1998 she briefly went to London to complete an internship, from London she moved to Germany where she truly became inspired. In the Spring of 2004 she launched her clothing line back in Montreal. In her designs she aims for clean and elegant lines. She is inspired by the past and loves making items to mix and match. All of her garments are made in Canada.

Of course my favorites would not be complete without YSL ( Yves St Laurent) YSL is an Algerian French designer and considered to be one of the greatest figures in fashion in the 20th century, however I would argue of all time. He attended Chambre Syndicale but left after a few months because it was frustrating. YSL then went on to work for Dior as Brunoff had seen his amazing talent. in 1957 Laurent was to succeed Dior as head designer and was the head designer for Dior at 21 years old. In 1960 he went on to launch his own line and he is credited for saving couture houses as he came out with a couture line and ready to wear line. He later died in 2008 of brain cancer.

I do not know much about the designer but I do know its a beautiful wool Olga coat. It was designed by Tatyana Merenyuk who is a designer from Ukraine who now resides in Chicago. This coat is a double breasted military style coat with a skirt at the bottom. The coat is not only elegant but very feminine.

Last but not least thigh high boots! They are a fall 2009 must have for the season. They have been featured in many magazines for the season and in many ready to wear collections. Picture above are Report Signature boots. Report Signature make footwear only that are very playful, flirty and versatile.

These are just a few of my favorite things! A little to expensive for me but maybe one day :)

Alexander McQueen

Lately it seems that Alexander McQueen is everywhere and for great reason, he is an amazing designer. He not only designs beautiful clothing but he also designs amazing couture fashion that is very ahead of its time and season. He puts detail and thought into his clothing making it unlike anyone out in the industry today. He is definitely a leader in the fashion world.

Alexander McQueen was born Lee Alexander McQueen but later dropped the Lee from his name as advised by a friend as it was more fashion friendly. He soon discovered he loved fashion as he designed dresses for his sisters at a very early age. He later worked at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design as a pattern cutter but later became a student as the head mistress saw his talents and convinced him to attend the school where he earned his masters. Alexander McQueen is known for his lavish and unconventional shows as you will see later in pictures....

First in his resort collection 2010 is the Kelli Lumi, this is my favorite piece of the collection it is not simple by any means but it looks so easily wearable. It seems to be a new take on a classic A-line dress

Alexander McQueen went on to debut his Spring 2010 RTW (ready to wear) line named "Platos Atlantis" while it has had mixed reviews from critics, I found it simply amazing. Lady Gaga debuted her new single Bad Romance during the live viewing which made the site crash however it brought a whole new audience to watch McQueens line bringing in a new demographic with Lady Gaga seemed to get his name out there even more. Although nothing in this collection is really RTW they are all intricately detailed pieces of reptile and digital print. He also introduced a 10 inch heel called the McQueenadillos which people are now trying to get a hold of. He is not mass producing them but may auction off the ones used in the show for charity. Furthermore as mentioned Lady Gaga also wore the fashions of Platos Atlantis in her Bad Romance video proving that McQueen is one fashion forward SOB. Just take a look for yourself...

Here are the images from Gaga's Video... I must admit this video and the fashions in the video made me start to like her...but shhh don't tell anyone

And remember fashion is a way of expression. You may not love it or like it but you have to at least appreciate it

forget manolo blahnik its all about Louboutin!

My Obsession with Christian Louboutin is becoming way too intense.I cannot rest until I have a pair of these shoes.. Manolo Blahnik became famous partly because of sex and the city but I honestly feel like he is a thing of the past and it is all about Christian Louboutin even though he launched his designer shoe line in 1991 in France. He is famously known for the red soles which are now his signature. Louboutin's has claimed his goal to be...“make a woman look sexy, beautiful, to make her legs look as long as [he] can.”

Along with Louboutin's classic styles such as Miss Clichy and the Bianca he has a line called total madness (pictures below) which include styles such as calypso which i would absolutely die for! Total madness clearly has the classic style of Louboutin but is embellished and over the top and lets be honest who would not love some over the top ridiculous heels. Just something about them that is so feminine and sexy making any outfit amazing.

When it comes to celebrities you know they want to be stylin in their Louboutins! Listed are just a couple such as Nicole Richie and Heidi klum, thus proving you can dress up these shoes like Richie or wear them out to an event like Klum. If only i was famous I would spend just about every check on some Louboutin's

Not only has Louboutin created a phenomenon with shoes but there is the Christian Louboutin manicure. Simply painting your nails black and the inside of the nail red. I must paint my nails like this. Hey if I cant afford the shoe I might as well paint my nails to remind me of what I am missing out on daily.

Christian Louboutin will forever be my favorite shoe designer that is until next week when I become amazed my Alexander McQueen.. Well for now it is all about the Louboutin and one day I will either get rich or buy a knock off and be sad that I never had a pair of amazing shoes... ahhh to be rich

I ain't afraid of no ghost!

My favorite (what i consider) a holiday is upon us! HALLOWEEN!!! My excitement is at near overload. It seems that every November 1st I come up with a plan for that next years halloween my mind is always thinking COSTUME! This year is no different I will be a bad ass ballerina!

Here are the makings of what I will be with obvious updates later to come after halloween

A ballerina on Halloween is not a ballerina until she is dead! so here is what the makeup should look like.. I use the word should loosely of course

and to end a little bit about the history of all hallows eve...

All Hallows Day to honor all Saints in heaven, known or unknown. They used to consider it with all solemnity as one of the most significant observances of the Church year. And Catholics, all and sundry, was obliged to attend Mass. The Romans observed the holiday of Feralia, intended to give rest and peace to the departed. Participants made sacrifices in honor of the dead, offered up prayers for them, and made oblations to them.

Regardless if you like Halloween or not... Do not spoil it for me :)

First Blog......

Well I guess I have finally joined the masses and now have a blog. So much to write about with so little time...

I am sure I will be the sole reader of this blog but hey it's cool something funny to look back on and say what the hell was I thinking! I really liked that!!!

eh regardless if you are one of the few or just glance over at this masterpiece welcome I hope you enjoy a glimpse into the madness that is my life and my obsessions!
